The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has condemned those who posted a video of two boys sodomising each other on social media.

The video, which shows the two boys, aged between four and seven and who were caught by an adult engaging in sexual activity, has been floating on social media.

Reacting to the situation, the Gender Minister, Nana Oye Lithur, has admonished all persons posting pornographic pictures of children to put a stop to the practice.

Unlawful

“It is unlawful and constitutes engagement in child pornography,” she stated, adding that the ministry had reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service to track down the culprits.

Nana Oye further expressed concern about the increasing posting of child pornography on social media.

“We urge the National Media Commission and the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to enforce regulations on the protection of children's rights in the media,” she said.

The ministry, she said, would work with the Attorney-General to amend the Children's Act to strengthen laws on criminalising child pornography and protecting children from exposure to pornographic material.

She indicated that the ministry had raised the issue of cyber safety and children, and the need for Internet service providers to be sensitive to protecting children in cyber space.

“We are committed to strengthening cyber safety for all children in Ghana,” Nana Oye added.
