Methodist Church commended for financial restructuring

The Superintendent Minister for the Adentan Circuit of the Methodist Church Ghana, Right Reverend Emmanuel MacLord Afriyie, has commended the Methodist Church Ghana for the financial restructuring towards the growth of the church.

He said the restructuring had led to the lifting of the financial burden on the circuits having to pay the salaries of the ministers in the church.

While admitting that funding remained a major bane of the growth of the church nationwide, he commended the Connexion (headquarters) of the church in the country for the bold and visionary financial restructuring and expressed optimism of a positive turnaround owing to the recent arrangements in the church.

"God has been gracious to us because for the first time in the history of the church, all ministers are paid by the Connexion right from the Conference," he stated, while recounting his experiences during his time as the Bishop of the Northern Diocese.

The Adentan Circuit

Right Rev. Afriyie was addressing the leaders of the church at his last quarterly meeting with the circuit at Agbogba.

The Adentan Circuit of the Methodist Church, Ghana was founded on April 26, 2003 with nine societies and currently has a membership of 2,504 from 22 societies.

The circuit, which was carved out of the Madina Circuit, has 10 ministers, two ministerial students, three supernumeraries (retired ministers), 11 caretakers, 25 society stewards, 101 accredited local preachers out of which nine preach under special dispensation, as well as three administrators.

Right Rev. Afriyie is credited with the introduction of the accredited local preachers in the circuit and also four new societies; Sesemi, Sun City, Comet and Maledjor.

Farewell

He used the occasion to bid farewell to the leaders of the church as he prepares to retire in September this year. A valedictory service is expected to be held in his honour in this direction.

Right Rev. Afriyie admonished the clergy, lay preachers and leaders of the church to allow the Holy Spirit to direct and guide them in their ministry.

He acknowledged the challenges in the ministry and the hardships Christians faced but encouraged them to strive for God's glory.
