He pleaded guilty to the charge of assault  and was fined GH¢200 and was also asked to pay GH¢300 compensation to his victim.

In default, he would serve six months in prison.

Awudu, who could not readily pay both the fine and compensation imposed on him by the Odumase –Krobo Circuit Court, spent one week in prison.

He was, however, released when his parents settled the total amount involved.

The facts presented by ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah to the court, presided over by Mr Frank Yao Gbeddy, were that the complainant is the biological father of the victim, Felicia Dagadu, 22, a kenkey seller residing at Pupuni near Akosombo.

ASP Yeboah said Felicia and Awudu had been in a relationship for the past six months during which the victim sometimes cooked for the accused and also passed the night at his place.

According to the prosecutor, on May 7, 2016 Awudu gave Felicia money to prepare food for him.

He said afterwards, Awudu requested Felicia to bring the food to his house but she failed to do so.

The prosecutor said Awudu took Felicia’s daughter to  his house thinking she would follow because of the child but she did not turn up.

ASP Yeboah said when Awudu waited for some time and realised that Felicia would not come, he sent  the child back to her.

ASP Yeboah said that when Awudu  got to Felicia’s house with the child, he insisted that Felicia send the food to his house but she again refused and  Awudu left.

The prosecutor said not long after, Awudu came back to Felicia’s house in an  angry mood and demanded  to know why she was not sending the food to his house.

He said in the course of the argument, Awudu  gave Felicia some slaps which landed her on the ground.

The prosecutor said Felicia  became unconscious and was rushed to the hospital where she regained consciousness and was discharged the following day.

A report was, therefore, made to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit and after medical examination, Awudu was arrested and charged with the offence.
