In a weekend that marked the installation of new officers for 2017 in the Marshallan fraternity, the Head of the Mathematics Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr Richard K. Avuglah, was also installed the Head of the Knights at the KNUST, while the Head of the Geological Engineering Department of the university, Prof. Simon Kafui Yawo Gawu, was installed as his deputy.

The Head of Treasury of Sovereign Bank, Mr John Zigah, was installed the Grand Knight of Council 71, Dansoman.

The new branch at Abuakwa became the 128th branch of the Knights of Marshall in Ghana, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, London, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Acceptance speech

In his acceptance speech after he had been installed, Mr Addai-Poku pledged to work hard to deepen the spirituality of the Marshallan fraternity.

He also pledged his commitment to increase the membership of the branch at Abuakwa and also create a new branch for one of the parishes of the Catholic Church in the area.

Zigah

For his part, Mr Zigah stressed the need for the Dansoman branch of the Knights of Marshall to come up with business plans to make the branch less dependent on the dues from members to run its activities.

“In line with the vision of the Supreme Council to help each council to be less dependent on dues/contributions, by the introduction of the Marshallan Saving and Investment Fund (MaSIF), it is my pledge to champion the implementation of this fund once the modalities have been streamlined and the fund is launched,” he stated.

On the construction of a temple for meetings, Mr Zigah said the temple project had been the vision of their forbears and appealed to all members to commit to getting the project completed.

He subsequently pledged GH¢3,000 towards the next stage of the project.

KNUST

After his installation, Dr Avuglah thanked God for helping him become the first Grand Knight to be installed in the KNUST Marshallan temple.

He commended his predecessors and the other members of the KNUST branch for their financial and material contributions towards the completion of the project.

He promised to work with the members to provide the finishing touches to the temple.
