Man stabs brother to death

A man who stabbed his brother to death at Chorkor, Accra in the Greater Accra Region  has been charged with murder before an Accra Magistrate Court.

Daniel Obirikwa Adjin’s plea was not taken when he appeared before the court, presided over by Mr James Kojo Botah, and was remanded into police custody.

 The case was adjourned to April 13, 2017.

Presenting the factS of the case, Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo said the complainant, Daniel Adjin, was the son of the deceased, William Adjin, while Obirikwa is a brother of the deceased.

He said both lived at Chorkor.

On March 3, 2017, at about 11:30pm the deceased was sleeping in his porch, while the complainant who was also in his room heard the deceased crying for help.

Daniel  rushed to the deceased porch and met Obirikwa with a knife stabbing his father  with blood gushing from the deceased’s neck.

Daniel in turn  shouted for help and  attracted other neighbours who came  to rescue the deceased but Obirikwa managed to escape.

According to Chief Inspector Dosoo, William  was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital for treatment but died hours later.

On March 20, 2017, at about 4:30am luck eluded Obirikwa  when the deceased’s daughter, Dorinda Adjin, spotted him at James Town and with the help of some people, he was arrested and handed over to the police.

Obirikwa in his caution statement said that the deceased attacked him first and he also stabbed him in the process in order to free himself.

On March 24, 2017, a post- mortem  performed on William   established that he  was stabbed six times. One each on his  head and  neck and  four on the back.

The pathologist gave exsanguination and multiple stabbed injuries as the cause of death.

Obirikwa  was accordingly held with a provisional charge of murder at the court.

 

A duplicate  docket on the case  is being prepared to the  Attorney General’s Department for advice.
