Man in police grip for stabbing neighbour to death

A 25-year-old man is in the grip of the Teshie Police for allegedly stabbing a 28-year-old neighbour in the rib, leading to his death.

The incident occurred last Tuesday when the two engaged in a fight over a stolen flat screen television at Adoemi, a suburb of Teshie, in Accra.

The suspect, Emmanuel Martei Boi, is said to be a notorious dealer in stolen items.

Boi is said to have been granted bail by the Accra Circuit Court recently in connection with a case in which he had been accused of possessing some stolen items.

The neighbour, identified as Solomon Mensah Agblor, is said to have been stabbed after he had allegedly attempted to broker peace in a fight between Boi and  his younger brother.

Report

The suspect was arrested after a fetish priest at Nsawam reported to the Nsawam Police that Boi had approached him for protection against the ghost of a man he had killed.

The Nsawam Police later handed Boi over  to the Teshie Police who had mounted a manhunt for him following the incident.

Briefing journalists, the Teshie District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police  Mr Peter Yembila, said at about 3 p.m. on November 1, the police received a distress call that a young man had been stabbed by another young man during a scuffle at Adoemi.

He said the victim was taken to the Lekma Hospital for medical attention but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Confrontation

A younger brother of the deceased is said to have chanced upon Boi selling his stolen television set and his attempt to question Boi degenerated into a fight between them.

The younger brother is said to have gone home to inform Agblor who approached Boi to ascertain the truth.

In the course of discussions, there was a misunderstanding between Boi and the younger brother of the deceased but Agblor calmed them down.

Unknown to Agblor, Boi had armed himself with a knife which he used to stab the former in the rib while he was walking his brother away from the scene.
