Thomas Tetteh is currently facing two counts of defilement and incest. His daughter is said to be seven weeks’ pregnant following the alleged act.

Tetteh has, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences and vehemently denied having carnal knowledge of his daughter.

At yesterday’s hearing of the case, counsel for the accused, Mr Joseph Turkson, said his client was not a rapist and described the case brought against him as mere allegation.

Bail

Mr Turkson prayed the court to grant his client bail, arguing that Tetteh was innocent until proven guilty.

The court, presided by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, granted counsel’s prayer and granted bail to the accused in the sum of GH¢50,000, with three sureties.

The case has been adjourned to March 20, 2016.

Facts

Presenting the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Evans Kesse, said the complainant in the case is the victim’s uncle.

He explained that Tetteh and his wife were separated, as a result of which Tetteh resided at Dome in Accra, while his ex-wife and his daughter resided at another suburb of Accra.

He said Tetteh’s daughter normally visited his father to take money for her upkeep.

On December 31, 2016, Chief Inspector Kesse said, Tetteh’s daughter, as usual, went to his father to collect money.

“Tetteh took advantage of her visit and convinced his daughter to be his girlfriend, since the mother was no more with him. After telling her that, he had sexual intercourse with her the same day,’’ he said.

The prosecutor added that the daughter did not inform anybody about what her father had done to her, but the alleged act resulted in a pregnancy.

The girl, he said, mentioned his father as the one responsible for her pregnancy and narrated her ordeal to her mother.

“The uncle, on hearing  the information, lodged a complaint with the Domestic Violence & Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Tesano Police and Tetteh was arrested,” Chief Inspector Kesse said.
