The victim was said to have turned a deaf ear to the tooting of the train before it crushed him and scattered his body on the rail lines close to the Graphic Road in Accra.

By 12:00 noon, the remains of his body had been put into a white cotton sack and left a few metres away from where the incident occurred.

Eyewitness accounts

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, an eyewitness, who only gave his name as Kwame, blamed the deceased for the accident

According to him, the victim who was wearing a shirt and a pair of jeans, blatantly ignored the train on many occasions.

“It was as if he wanted the train to hit him on purpose,” Kwame claimed.

Describing how it happened, he said the victim was one of the passengers on the train who alighted at the train station along the Odaw drain.

Kwame said the victim, being the first person to alight from the train, decided to walk on the rail lines.

“I thought he would walk off the rail lines immediately the train set off but he didn’t do that,” he further alleged.

When the train set off again to its last stop at Kantamanto, it began to toot loudly to alert the victim to walk away from the rail line but he ignored it.

“The driver of the train decided to stop again but the speed at which it moved made it difficult, which resulted in him being crushed,” Kwame said.
