Five of them were picked up at Asankragwa in the Western Region whilst the remaining two were picked up at Techiman in Brong Ahafo.

All the arrests were made on Thursday.

Graphic Online’s Timothy Gobah reported from Cape Coast that it was not clear whether or not those arrested at Asankragwa were connected with the crime, but, according to the police, the suspects were being sent to the Central Regional Police Headquarters for further interrogation.

Dead body

In a related development, the police said they had found a dead body with a knife wound on him at the outskirts of Denkyira-Obuasi

They said a search on the dead body found a Voter’s ID card with the name Francis Bioh.

It was not clear what might have happened to him but the police gave an assurance that investigations were underway to find out the cause of death.

Techiman arrests

In another development, Emmanuel Adu-Gyamerah reports from the Brong Ahafo region that two people said to be linked to the murder of Captain Mahama have been arrested in Techiman.

The two, said to have witnessed the dastardly act, were overheard narrating the incident, and so the police were tipped off and they were picked up.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Crime Officer, Nana Kwaku Duah confirmed the arrest to Graphic Online, but declined to give further details.

He however stated that for now those arrested are not suspects but witnesses.

"We are taking them to Accra and I cannot comment further on the matter."

The reports from Techiman indicated the two whose names were yet to be known were arrested following a tip off by some traders at the Techiman Market.

According to the reports, the traders were suspicious due to the conversation they heard from the two and tipped off the police to cause the arrest.
