Machomen march for a peaceful election

Macho men in three Districts of Ashanti region have embarked on a two-hour peace walk through the principal streets of Konongo to sensitize the public of the need to ensure a peaceful election this week.

The event organized by the Asante Akim Machomen Association (AAMA) was aimed at assuring the general public of their readiness to support a peaceful election.

Numbering about 300, the men who were from Asante Akim Central, North and South Districts carried placards some of which read ‘election is for development and not fighting’, ‘let’s maintain the peace before, during and after the election, Ghana needs us alive’, don’t allow yourself to be used to foment trouble among others.

They marched through the principal streets of Konongo, Konongo Zongo, Freetown, Nhyiaem, Akrantiebesa and Odumase respectively.

The exercise attracted members of the various political parties; however no political paraphernalia were allowed signifying a unity of purpose.

Also in attendance were the Parliamentary candidates for the Conventional Peoples Party (CPP), Mr Charles Ofosu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwame Anyimadu and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Yamoah Afrifa.

The Konongo Divisional Commander of Police, Superintendent Ohene Boadi Bossman, commended the machomen for their desire to ensure a peaceful election.

He pledged the cooperation of the Police Command towards ensuring peace before, during and after the election.

The Divisional Commander however warned people who intend to foment trouble before, during and after the election to change their mind since the security service were very ready to deal with them to ensure that law and order prevailed to promote national development.

All the Parliamentary candidates pledged their support towards ensuring the organization of a peaceful election on December 7.

They were upbeat that the upcoming election would be one of the most peaceful election to be organized by the country.

The leader of the Machomen, Mr Kwadwo Gyamfi (alias Abodie), announced that no machoman in the area would be allowed to meddle in the election but would rather assist the security services to protect all the stakeholders to embark on the organization of a peaceful election.

He warned the machomen not to allow themselves to be influenced with money by any politician to cause any form of commotion since it would lead to conflict which would in the long run disturb the peace and development of the nation.

The leader of the machomen commended the police command for the education and cooperation towards ensuring a peaceful co-existence in the area.
