LPG station attendants trained on safety measures

More than 50 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) station attendants from the Greater Accra and Central regions have undergone training on fire safety.

The  workshop was organised by the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) Limited in Accra.

Following the rising incidence of gas explosions the country has witnessed in recent times, the company decided to embark on the exercise to train and equip the attendants on how to ensure safety at the work place.

Promotion

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the GCMC, Mrs Elizabeth Yawa Morny, the government, through the Ministry of Petroleum, had embarked on a rural LPG promotion programme to encourage the use of LPG as the preferred fuel for domestic use. She therefore urged the trainees to assist in the public education drive on the importance and safe handling of LPG and its accessories.

The participants were also admonished to sensitise their customers to the need to ensure the use and regular maintenance of locally manufactured cylinders.

Fire safety

The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Mr Prince Billy Anaglatey, also indicate the need for fire safety measures to be instituted at all fuel and LPG stations.

He also advised users of LPG to ensure that  they regularly checked their cylinders to fix any leakages.

The Production and Technical Manager of the GCMC,  Mr Ezekiel Mensah, took participants through how to identify efficient and durable gas cylinders in the market.

He mentioned serial numbers and certified seals of manufacturers as some of the indicators one should look out for before purchasing a gas cylinder.
