Lolobi celebrates maiden Ipor Rice Festival

The people of the Lolobi Traditional Area in the Hohoe Municipality have celebrated their maiden Lolobi Ipor Rice Festival.

The festival aims to make rice, which is a staple food of the people, the food of choice. 

It is hoped that through the landmark celebration, the production of rice in the traditional area would be intensified to enable the area to generate income for development.

Launching the festival at the Freedom Hotel in Ho last weekend, a spokesperson for the Lolobi Traditional Area, Mr Christian Amuzu-Addo, said “Ipor” was one of the days of the week on the lunar calendar of the people of Lolobi and was a special day set aside for special events such as the performance of customary marriage rights, installation of chiefs and for giving judgement in unusual cases in the traditional area.
