Ishmael Sandwidi’s plea was not taken when he appeared before the court, presided over by Mr Isaac Addo.

He was subsequently remanded into police custody.

Chief Inspector Yeboah in presenting the facts of the case to the court, said  Sandwidi is a lecturer at the Tamale Polytechnic.

He said both Sandwidi and the victim lived in the same area.

The prosecutor said on July 20, 2016, at about 8.00 p.m., Sandwidi went to the chop bar where the victim worked to buy food.

Prosecutor Yeboah said after Sandwidi was served with his food, he asked the victim for her phone number but she refused to give it to him.

He said on July 24, 2016 at about 8.30 p.m. the girl was on her way home from work when Sandwidi emerged from nowhere with another man, held her hand and told her to follow him.

At that point, the victim wanted to cry but she was warned by Sandwidi that if she cried, she would be beaten.

According to the prosecutor, Sandwidi dragged her into his room and ordered her to embrace him, but she refused.

The prosecutor said Sandwidi then pushed the victim onto his bed and forcibly slept with her after which, he walked the victim out of his room.

C/Inspector Yeboah said a report was made to the Tesano Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the victim was medically examined and a report was submitted to the police.

Sandwidi was later arrested and charged before the court.
