Known as the “Kuubla Foundation,” it has already started functioning with the presentation of educational materials to girls in some schools in the district.

The items included 5,000 exercise books which were presented to about 500 girls in 15 schools in Nkwanta and surrounding communities, including Chaso and Nyamon.

The Roman Catholic Kindergarten at Nkwanta has also been presented with learning materials.

Falling educational standard

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Nana Okogye, who is also a professional teacher in Accra, lamented the falling standard of education in the district.

She attributed the development to factors such as poverty and lack of proper parental care.

The queenmother said early and forced marriages, as well as teenage pregnancy, were destroying the future of many girls in the district.

“The Kuubla Foundation is determined to complement efforts in addressing these challenges,” she said.

She said it was clear that the government alone could not solve all the problems in the education sector, so the private sector had a responsibility to also support.

She called on parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to take education seriously because it was through quality education that the district would see the expected development.

Nana Okogye commended the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, for her support to the foundation, and said the foundation would soon undertake various activities to empower women to participate fully in economic activities across various sectors.
