The project is aimed at providing needy communities with clean and safe water.

Nineteen communities in the Western Region have already benefited from the project.

Each of the water systems has a reservoir that has an installed capacity of 2,700 litres. The systems are hybrid facilties which are capable of straining out harmful pathogens and unwanted salts.

The Commercial Director of Kosmos Energy Ghana, Mr Philip Liverpool, made this known when he handed over the completed water systems at separate ceremonies at Amanase in the Eastern Region, Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region and Nyanyano in the Central Region last Friday

“We expect that by the end of 2017, the company’s water project sites will go up from a current 31 to 98 communities across the country to meet the water needs of about 1.2 million people,” he said.

He commended the traditional authorities and the people in the various communities for their collaboration and expressed gratitude to the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) and the district assemblies for their support in helping to make the project a reality.

He urged the communities that had received the facilities to take good care of them and ensure that they served the people.

“We at Kosmos Energy will continue to look for other equally impactful ventures and partner other communities in order for the government’s efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals to be accelerated,” he said.

The Chief of Nyanyano, Nana (Dr) Obeng Wiabo V, recalled that prior to the implementation of the project, residents went through a lot of challenges in search of water.
