So far, more than 11 houses at suburbs such as Dechemso-Airport Roundabout have been earmarked for demolistion.

Other areas to be affected are WAEC, Abrepo and Moshie Zongo.

Task force

A four-member task force, made up of engineers from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the KMA, Urban Roads and the Environmental Protection Agency, have been tasked to submit an execution plan for the exercise within four days.

The report of the task force is also expected to outline how the demolition will be carried out without any hitches.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the assembly, Mr Osei Asibey Antwi, announced the measures during a tour of some flood prone areas in the metropolis yesterday.

During the tour, the MCE advised those who would be affected in the exercise to take immediate steps to vacate their homes and also move their structures from the waterways before the exercise takes off.

Desertion

It was also observed during the tour that a number of houses in those areas had been deserted following recent floods.

Mr Antwi promised that the KMA would work within the law to ensure orderliness and safety of property and life during the exercise.

The Ashanti regional NADMO director, Mr Kwebena Nsenkyere, said his outfit would offer the necessary support for the successful execution of the exercise.

He said the NADMO officials would also embark on a campaign to educate the people on the dangers in building or siting structures on waterways.
