Kloyosikplemi festival cannot be celebrated — Divisional chiefs of Yilo Krobo

Five out of the six divisional chiefs in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area have refused to recognise a meeting dubbed, “Yilo Krobo Outreach meeting,” at which the decision to celebrate the Kloyosikplemi Festival this year was taken.

The chiefs contend that there were still outstanding issues regarding the installation of a new paramount chief for the traditional area to succeed the late Nene Dawutey Ologo VI, who passed away seven years ago.

The five divisional chiefs who say they were not invited and did not receive any information to attend any outreach meeting are Nene Tetteh Aglbeze III, Plau Division; Nene Narh O. Agbo III, Bunase Division; Nene Nani Azzah V, Nyewer Division; Nene Akro Saki II, Ogome Division, and Nene Anati Agor VIII, Okper Division.

According to the chiefs, no traditional council meeting had taken place at which the decision was taken to celebrate the Kloyosikplemi Festival this year.

The chiefs are, under the circumstances, calling on the public to ignore a report on page 28 of the July 22, 2016 edition of the Daily Graphic with the headline, “Yilo Krobo to celebrate Kloyosikplemi Festival”, because no such decision has been reached.

According to the spokesman for the chiefs, Nene Tetteh Aglbeze, the convener of the said outreach meeting, Nene Odonko Tumeh, was not a traditional chief but an honorary chief who did not have the power to convene such a meeting.

Furthermore, he said, it was wrong for Nene Tumeh who is only a ‘Swapolor’, that is an honorary chief, to carry himself as the acting President of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, since the Chieftaincy Act confers the position of an acting president on the most senior divisional chief and not an honorary chief.

He said the chiefs would want it placed on record that any traditional council meeting without the involvement of the sub-divisional chiefs of the traditional area would be of no effect.

“We wish to inform the general public that the situation which did not make it conducive to hold the Kloyosikplemi Festival in 2015 still prevails today,” he said.

Nene Aglbeze said the five sub-divisional chiefs and their people had nothing to do with the said Kloyosikplemi Festival to be held this year; any organisation, body corporate or individual who did any transaction with the said festival committee or the said traditional council and planning committee did so at their own risk.

He said there had not been any move to resolve the outstanding chieftaincy dispute in the traditional area which was pending before the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and that until the case was adjudicated, the celebration of the festival was still on hold.
