President-elect Nana Akufo Addo won the just-ended 2016 presidential election held on December 7.

A statement signed and issued by the Project Director, Mr Yahaya Alhassan, commended Mrs Akufo-Addo for her new role.

The statement went further to commend Mrs Akufo-Addo for her support for Kayayei when her husband was the opposition leader, saying even in opposition, “you did not only embrace and support the Kayayei project, but helped it to where it is today”.

The statement called for good health and wisdom for the incoming First Lady who it described as having the advancement of deprived women and children at heart.

In a related development, the statement also said the project had also completed the Kejetia Kayayei resettlement centre and clinic in Kumasi.

The facility, located at the heart of the Kejetia Market, will have a public address system to share information of importance to kayayei in the market, as well as other women in the market and a special department where they would be educated on their rights as citizens.
