Brigadier General Kwame Opong-Kyekyeku (retd) chairs the 14-member NADMO board, while the nine-member Auctioneers Registration Board is chaired by a Deputy Minister for the Interior, Mr Henry Quartey.

Auctioneers

Addressing the members of the Auctioneers Registration Board, the first to be inaugurated at the Interior Ministry in Accra yesterday, Mr Dery tasked its members to work hard to redeem the image of the institution following recent reports that revealed some dishonest activities of some auctioneers.

“Auctioneering in recent times has come under public scrutiny due to the unscrupulous activities of some auctioneers. The Auctioneers Registration Board needs to work harder to redeem its image in the eyes of the public,” he said.

Mr Dery stated that auctioneers played a critical role in the economic development of the country and that the board needed to put all its expertise at work and keep practitioners on their toes.

“There is a need to ensure that only honest and trustworthy persons practise the trade,” he stressed.

Mr Dery entreated members of the board to contribute significantly to the deliberations and functioning of the council, saying “your services transcend religious, political, ethnic and social barriers.”

He also urged them to avoid “rubber stamping management plans and programmes and rather subject all such plans and activities to critical scrutiny.”

Chairmen respond

In his response, Mr Quartey thanked the President for the opportunity to serve the country and gave an assurance that the board would work hard within its remit to enrich the auctioneer profession and enhance its sunken image.

For his part, Brig. Opong-Kyekyeku said the board was prepared to work together to help NADMO discharge its duties and responsibilities creditably.
