Institute of Chartered Accountants supports Weija Leprosarium

The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), has donated food and toiletries valued at GH¢5,000 to the Weija Leprosarium in the Ga South Municipality.

They include 100 tubers of yam, five bags of rice, two maxi sacks of millet and maize, as well as five cartoons of milk, five boxes of canned fish and five gallons of oil.

The other items are five cartons of key soap,10 packs of tissue paper and five packs of toilet roll.

In addition, the institute presented a cheque for GH¢5,000 to the Lepers Aid ommittee (LAC), an entity in charge of the basic needs of the facility.

Corporate responsibility

Presenting the items, the Vice-President of ICAG, Mr Christian Sottie, said the gesture was to climax activities marking the week celebration of the institute.

He said every year, members of the ICAG extended support to the physically challenged.

“Every year, we try to support a group or individuals, particularly the vulnerable who need help. It is part of our corporate responsibility, “he explained.

Stigmatisation

The Chairman of the LAC, Rev. Fr Andrew Campbell, commended the institute for the support and appealed to the public to accept cured lepers in their communities.

He entreated the media to educate the public to stop the stigmatisation of lepers across the country.

To express their appreciation, the inmates sang to praise the Lord for the benevolent gesture.

“We are most grateful to Father Campbell and his colleagues and Ghanaians for the care,” an inmate, Ms Gladys Adobea, said.
