The move is in support of the National Sanitation Day exercise held every first Saturday of the month, which falls on the 7th of this month.

The company, since the introduction of the National Sanitation campaign has been presenting litter bins to various institutions including the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the 37 Military Hospital, key market centres and lorry parks.

The presentation of the litter bins to the University of Ghana will support the educational institution in keeping a clean and healthy environment suitable for academic work.

In an interview ahead of the presentation of the bins, the Brands Manager, Shine Akiem Torsoo, said the company wholly supports the government initiative to keep the country clean and has therefore decided to give out free litter bins to various institutions. He said the relevance attached to previous presentations by the recipients has further encouraged the company to do more, adding that other institution will also be supported.

As a company operating in the foods industry, Mr. Torsoo said sanitation was key, explaining that the company will stop at nothing in advancing the cause of clean environment and hygienic practices.

The National Sanitation Day campaign was launched in September last year with the aim of encouraging Ghanaians to clean their environment and control the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in their communities.

Although the exercise is nationwide on each of the first Saturdays of the month, a particular regional capital is designated as the host for each edition. The Volta regional capital, Ho, is therefore the host for the 4th edition.

The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV has pledged support for the coming exercise, saying that government’s strategy of investing in people cannot be met if the people are not healthy and that it was only a healthy population that can contribute meaningfully to a country’s development.
