It is expected to be completed in 18 months.

The Upper West Regional Police office has shared the premises of the former Wa District Police Headquarters since it was carved out of the former Upper Region in 1983.

The IGP also inaugurated a new police clinic to cater for the health needs of police personnel and the general public.

Commendation

Mr Alhassan commended the regional police command for exhibiting a high sense of professionalism and discipline, which had reduced crimes along the eastern corridor, which hitherto had been prone to armed robbery.

He urged the police to remain neutral, fair and firm in the discharge of their duties.

The IGP explained that the establishment of a national patrol department was aimed at bringing policing to the doorstep of the public and the introduction of a new police identification badge was in line with the law and international standard.

Co-operation

Mr Alhassan called on the various stakeholders including Metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, corporate institutions and international organisations operating in the country to assist the police perform their duties efficiently.

In particular, he called for the general public’s co-operation to enhance the work of the police and appealed to individuals to give the police tip-offs when the need arose.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani,  appealed to all factions in the Dondoli and Jejedeyiri land dispute to use the laid-down procedure to resolve their differences.

He commended the police for their quick response to conflicts and lauded the Police Administration for introducing the visibility and accessibility programme to bring the police closer to the public, as part of efforts to reduce crimes.

The Regional Police Commander, Mr Kwasi Mensah Duku, stated that in a bid to be proactive, the regional police command had established police posts at Dobile, Wa Polytechnic Junction, Mangu and the University  for Development Studies (UDS), while plans were far-advanced to mount more police posts within the municipality in particular and the region in general.
