Ibrahim Mahama does not owe us - Ghana Airport Company responds

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has explained that Mr Ibrahim Mahama does not owe it as speculated in some media reports.

Some media reports last week suggested that Mr Mahama, a younger brother of former President John Mahama, owed the GACL over Gh¢8 million in aviation fuel costs and taxes.

Mr Mahama, a business magnate and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the construction company, Engineers and Planners Company Limited owns a private jet.

He has recently been in the news in relation to debts to the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

Last week, there was another report suggesting that he was indebted to the GACL.

Following that, his lawyers, LithurBrew Company wrote a query to the GACL requesting for a status on Engineers and Planners Company Limited.

In a response letter, a copy of which was available to Graphic Online, the GACL said Mr Mahama does not owe it as of Friday May 5, 2017.

“Reference to your letter dated 3rd May, 2017 on the above subject, we wish to state that Engineers and Planners Company Limited is not indebted to Ghana Airports Company Limited as at 5th May 2017,” the letter signed by Dr J. Okwesie Arthur, Deputy Manager Director of the GACL said.

Attached to the response letter, was a statement of accounts from the GACL.
