The two-day event, dubbed: Highway Africa (HA) Conference, is on the theme, ‘The Internet and the Media – Celebrations, Reflections and the Future,’ will seek to explore the evolving impact of the Internet on journalism and the media.

The conference is expected to feature keynote addresses, plenary sessions, panel discussions and training workshops, among others.

The Highway Africa Conference is hosted by the Rhodes University's School of Journalism and Media Studies in partnership with corporate companies in South Africa as well as development agencies and media associations.

The 2016 edition would mark 20 years of championing Africa's debates on journalism, media and information and Communication Technology (ICT).

"HA 2016 will be at one level a celebration of 20 years of the existence of Africa's premier journalistic assembly and at another level an occasion for reflection on Internet and society," a communique from the organisers said.

The conference was preceded by a journalism training workshop and the  Barclays Data Journalism Master Class for selected journalists from the continent, including Ghana.

Three journalists from Ghana participated in the Data Journalism Master Class held from August 24 to 27 at the Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa.
