Made up of 25 members in each group and club, the volunteers are expected to be the first port of call whenever there is disaster in the area.

The members were selected from various communities and schools within the municipality, and are expected to be provided with logistics from NADMO to enable them to carry out their operations effectively.

The event attracted various dignitaries from the NADMO head office, as well as the regional and the municipal assembly.

Inauguration

Inaugurating the groups and clubs, the Head of Man-made Disasters and Fires at the Greater Accra Regional office of NADMO, Alhaji Muhammed A. Tchafaraw, said they were relevant since the area was prone to disasters, mostly floods.

He indicated that it was important to have such groupings in the various districts and municipalities, especially in areas where disaster usually occurred, saying it would enhance safety in the communities.

Alhaji Tchafaraw also called on the chiefs and opinion leaders in the communities to provide the needed assistance that the groups might need to enhance their work.

“It is also the duty of our chiefs and opinion leaders to do their best to assist these groups so that they can succeed in their work,” he added.

He further tasked them to be innovative and come up with ideas that would make the work of the groups easier.

He further called on Ghanaians to prevent human-induced disasters.
