Graphic tops GJA award winners
The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) continues to dominate the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards.

Out of 28 nominees from different media organisations, five reporters of the GCGL from different brands of the company have been penciled for awards.
They are Samuel Kyei-Boateng, Daily Graphic; Seth J. Bokpe, Daily Graphic; Zadok Kwame Gyesi, Graphic Online, Hadiza Nuhhu-Billa Quansah, The Mirror; and Dotse Koblah Aklorbortu, Graphic Business.
Apart from the nominees from the GCGL, other nominees are Portia Gabor, TV3; John Vigah, Ghanaian Times; Benedict Dankwa Owusu, Joy FM; Dominic Hlordzi, GBC; Samuel Innocent Appiah, The Informer; David Andoh, Myjoyonline; Kwame Anum, TV Africa; Dominic Andoh, Business & Financial Times; Latif Iddrisu, Joy News; Peter Quao Adator, TV3; Umaru Sanda, Citi FM; and Kafui Kanyi, GNA.
The rest are Jamila Akweley Okerchiri, Daily Guide; Kojo Mensah Abrompa, TV Africa; Alice Aryeetey, GH One TV; Ridwan Karim Dini Osman, GH One TV; Kwami Sefa Kayi, Peace FM; New Day, TV3; Bernard Avle and team, Citi FM; Good Evening Ghana, Metro TV; Nana Yaa Konadu, Peace FM; and GBC Adult Education (Akan, Ga, Ewe, Dagbani, Hausa, Nzema).

According to the association, 11 other reporters have been mentioned for individual awards for their contributions towards the fight against ‘galamsey’.
They are Kojo Agyeman, Citi FM; Edem Srem, Freelance Journalist; Latif Iddrisu, Joy News; Kwabena Adu-Gyamfi, TV3; Clara Mlano, GTV; Julious Yao Petetsi, Ghanaian Times; Stephen Kweku Ofosu, Oman FM; Joyce Gyekye, GBC; Godwin Arthur Mensah, GNA; Obrempong Yaw Ampofo, Citi FM (Takoradi); and Seth J. Bokpe, Daily Graphic.
Additionally, six media houses have also been mentioned for awards, while special awards are to be given to the members of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey.
The 22nd GJA awards slated for Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 10a.m. is themed: “Safe Mining and Environmental Protection: The Role of the Media.”
At a press conference in Accra, the Chairperson of the GJA Awards Committee, Dr Doris Yaa Dartey, observed that some individuals submitted poor work without consulting their editors and producers.
“Some entries were not well labelled, neither could they be identified: no name, no media house. These suggest lack of seriousness,” she stated.
She mentioned that there were clear indications of weak investigations for stories and overdependence on officialdom as sole sources.
