CIMG President

The President of CIMG, Mr Kojo Mattah, said the presentation of the awards was an attempt by the CIMG to encourage excellence at the professional and business levels and also push forward the concept of 'Ghana First'.

He stressed the need for tolerance and peaceful coexistence in the run-up to the December 7 elections, saying “It is a fact that none of us here can successfully carry out our profession or business in an atmosphere of chaos except if one was a gun-runner."

Mr Mattah asked political parties to employ the services of marketing practitioners to market their policies and ideologies in a peaceful manner.

"The old divisive principles partisan politics must eventually give way to a new body politic with sound marketing practices in place of propaganda," he suggested.

Vote-buying

In his address, the Omanhen of Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, also urged Ghanaians to preserve the prevailing peace and work together as a united body to propel the country's socio-economic development.

He said Ghanaians could not afford to lose the current peace, and indicated that the maintenance of the peace depended on the contribution of all Ghanaians.

Nana Nketsia condemned the creeping incidence of vote buying in the country's body politic.

He said the practice whereby politicians went round offering gifts to people with the aim to induce them and get their votes was against the tenets of democracy.

Besides, he said the offering of gifts demeaned the politicians in the eyes of the electorate.

Nana Nketsia said the politicians went round giving all manner of things as gifts to people during elections but they did not want people to call that practice by its name, vote buying.
