Govt will support fishermen affected by tidal waves. Prez Mahama says at start of Gt Accra campaign

President John Dramani Mahama kicked off a three-day election campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region yesterday, promising the government’s support for fishermen who were affected by the recent tidal waves along some of the beaches of Accra.

On September 4, 2016, tidal waves destroyed canoes and other fishing gear along some of the beaches, including Bortianor.

Speaking at a rally at Bortianor, the President said he had asked the Minister of Fisheries to conduct an evaluation of the items destroyed, so that the government could address the difficulties being experienced by the fisher folk.

"Very soon we will find ways of assisting you," he told the people of the predominantly fishing community.

Rally

The rally was well attended by party supporters who cheered the President on as he addressed them.

President Mahama said the impressive attendance was testimony of the victory the people of the Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom Constituency were going to give the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NDC, he said, had been faithful to the people of the constituency, as shown in the development projects extended to the area by the government.

The projects are in the areas of education, health, roads and water.

President Mahama urged the people to continue to have confidence in him and the NDC, as the NDC government would implement more development projects to better the standard of living of the people.

He said it was clear that no matter the good work done by the government, its opponents would never show appreciation.

But, he said, God and the good people of Ghana were aware of the hard work of the government.

"By the Grace of God, the NDC will win the elections," he told the enthusiastic crowd.

President Mahama introduced the NDC parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Mr Bright Demordzi, and urged the electorate to vote massively for him in the December elections.

The President also addressed a rally at Kweku Panfu in the Obom-Domeabra Constituency.
