Govt launches job seekers platform
The government has created an online platform to connect job seekers to employment vacancies in the public and private sectors in the country.

The Ghana Labour Market Information System (GLMIS), which was launched by the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, in Accra yesterday, provides opportunities for job seekers to select the industry, type of work and the location of the work.
To facilitate the process, portals have been created for the various industry players in education, health, sciences and mining to post their respective job vacancies.
Reliable employment data
Mr Iddrisu said the GLMIS was an initiative and effort by the government to have a reliable and accurate data on employment.
That, he said, was because people who logged onto the system, with recognised national identification cards, would be captured and that would give a true information on the number of people looking for jobs.
Mr Iddrisu said the information would be particularly useful for the Ghana Statistical Service, stressing that "we have found a terminal end to the risk of statistics on employment that are not substantiated.”
"Our country can boast an established system to monitor and give accurate data on the labour market," he added.
Guide to all
Mr Iddrisu said job seekers would then know where to go to look for jobs. Mid-career professionals seeking new career options would also be provided with useful information.
Besides, he said, the platform would serve as an important source of information for employers, training institutions and the academia.
The minister said the GLMIS would ensure that people would get jobs based on their qualification but not on nepotism or through protocol.
Besides, he said, it would match job seekers with the relevant jobs in the various sectors.
MIS expert
The Management Information Systems (MIS) expert for the GLMIS, Mr Emmanuel Boahen, announced that users of the GLMIS would not be charged any fees for using the platform.
To facilitate the capturing of data, he said users would be required to enter specific information, such as date of birth on their national identification documents.
