“No community can afford to have development sporadically done. What has happened in Africa most times is that we have one government coming in and ignoring the development initiatives of predecessors and starting all over again. That is a waste of resources and human power,” he observed.

He, therefore, expressed the hope that Ghanaians would help to make that document a major development signpost for the country’s accelerated growth in all spheres of national life.

East Ghana conference

Rt Rev. Dr Lartey made the commendation when he addressed journalists after he had opened ther 116th Session of the East Ghana Conference of the A.M.E Zion church in Accra.

During the conference, members will know the state of affairs with regard to the preparation towards the election of an indigenous  Presiding  Bishop to run the affairs of the A.M.E. Zion church in Western-West Africa Episcopal District. The Episcopal District is made up of Ghana, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia.

Two Ghanaians who will be contesting for the Presiding Bishop position, which will take place in July next year in the USA, are Rev. Dr  Hilliard Dela Dogbe and Rev. Dr Richard Gadzekpo.

Working together

Rt Rev. Dr Lartey encouraged Ghanaians to work together so that the country could push forward with its the development agenda.

He urged members of the A.M.E Zion church, particulary  those in Ghana  to see the upcoming election of an indigenous Resident Bishop as a call to duty where it was very important to work for unity and progress to improve the life of the ministers in the church, as well as support the national development drive through education, health,  progressive leadership, as well as evangelism.

“We know that without leadership, nothing happens, everything rises and falls on leadership. And so we are praying and asking others to join us in prayers so that whoever was elected will not be because of the person’s popularity, friendship, but will be because of the one God will want us to have to lead the Western West Africa Episcopal District,” he stressed.
