Govt has been faithful to farmers — Prez Mahama

A new producer price of cocoa for the 2016/2017 cocoa season will be announced in October, President John Dramani Mahama has hinted.

Although the President did not mention specific figures, he said the producer price, which would be announced by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), would see an upward adjustment.

The current producer price of cocoa for a 64 kilogramme bag of cocoa beans is GH¢420, representing 73 per cent of the net free-on-board (FOB) price.

At a campaign rally at Ajumako Besease in the Central Region last Thursday, he said the NDC in government had remained faithful to farmers and would continue to do so.

President Mahama said agriculture would receive a massive boost in his next term.

He described as false, statements by opponents of the NDC that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was collapsing under his watch.

Contrary to the statements, the President said, the NHIS was progressing as the statistics showed.

"The NHIS will never collapse under John Mahama," the President stressed.

President Mahama's activities for the day also saw him paying courtesy calls on the chiefs of Breman Asikuma, Ajumako and Agona Nsaba and also addressed rallies at Odoben and Nsaba.

NDC will win

President Mahama said the NDC would, by the Grace of God, win the election based on the achievements chalked up by the government.

In the water, electricity, roads, health and education sectors, the President said the government had performed creditably although he admitted that there was still some work to do.

He asked the people to vote massively for the NDC so that the government would continue with the good work.

Based on the work that had been done by his government, President Mahama indicated that his next term would bring increased prosperity to the Ghanaian people.

Peace

Reiterating the need for peace in the election, the President gave an assurance that the NDC would not do anything to mar the peace of the country.

He challenged opponents of the NDC to also commit to peace in the election.

Yesterday, President Mahama addressed another rally in Winneba, where he urged the people to vote massively for the NDC.

Addressing party supporters, the President said the Winneba Fishing Harbour would be built during his second term of office.
