The interim Chairman of the university, Dr Eric Don Arthur, who made the call, underscored the need for members to work as a team towards the realisation of the goals of the newly established university.

“I am challenging the Departmental Advisory Boards to resolve to make their respective departments the best academic department in the university,” he said.

Boards

The Departmental Advisory Boards are to offer practical suggestions for improving teaching and learning in the department, as well as serve as a link between the department and industry.

Dr Arthur said the interim council endorsed the appointment of members and considered them as partners in the development of the university, adding that: “If you play your role effectively, our institution will be able to live up to expectation.”

For his part, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Lawrence Atepor, said the direct involvement of industry representatives in the training of students would help to reduce skills gap of graduates to the barest minimum, if not completely removed.

He said the departmental boards’ concept assumed more relevance, particularly when the mandate of technical universities, as enshrined in the Act, was taken into consideration.
