Gov’t to foot bills of gas explosion victims

Government has given the assurance that the medical bills of the gas explosion victims will be covered by the state.

The Minister of Health, Mr Alex Segbefia made this known when he visited some of the victims who were on admission at the 37 Military Hospital.

According to him, 28 of the victims of Thursday’s gas explosion which occurred near the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre at La in Accra were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital.

“Unfortunately we lost one who was in a very bad condition when he arrived and within a short space of time he passed on. Four were treated and discharged, so, on admission at the current moment we have 23 at various levels and degrees of burns,” he said.

“So, the president has indicated clearly that all the burn victims from this incident will be covered by the state,” Mr Segbefia added.

Nine persons have so far been confirmed dead in Thursday’s gas explosion.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred around 5:30 pm and swept through the street onto parts of the Trade Fair Centre.

The injured dare said to be workers waiting for buses on the road that links the area to Tseaddo, Spintex and Teshie Tsui Bleoo.
