Global Evangelical Church updates skills of pastors

The Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church, the Rt Rev. Dr Setorwu Ofori, has urged pastors to exhibit a high sense of accountability in the discharge of their duties.

He said accountability was central in the work of Christians for which reason pastors should be answerable to their superiors and to God, even if they took initiatives themselves.

Rev. Dr Ofori was addressing the maiden in-service training for reverend ministers and evangelists of the Global Evangelical Church in Accra recently.

The programme, which was exclusively attended by the 2015 Year Group of reverend ministers, will be replicated for all pastors and evangelists of the church in batches.

The moderator presented a paper on the theme: “Biblical Accountability in Ministry” and said there could be several dimensions of accountability for church leaders.

Account for funds raised

On financial accountability, Rt Rev. Dr Ofori said even though pastors had been empowered to raise funds based on strong biblical basis, such funds must be accounted for.

He advised leaders to be flexible and responsible so they could monitor and disburse funds as good stewards.

He added that pastors must be accountable in their proclamations and that the church was there to change lives and the tool for change was the word of God.

“Proclamations must not be for personal benefit such as getting money and fame,” he cautioned.

Rt Rev. Dr Ofori also urged the pastors to be accountable in their practices, the use of power and in their relationships.

Focused minister

The Synod Clerk of the church, Rev. Raphael Mac Attih, who spoke on the topic: “Being a Focused Minister” said pastors had to stay focused in life and do the work God had entrusted to them with purpose and priority.

He stated that most people could not live their lives to the fullest because of distractions, and that was when one lost sense and touch of priority and purpose.

The Synod Clerk advised ministers to have a list of priorities to help them sort out the many options that confronted them in ministry.

He advised ministers to give more time to those things that are important to God.

“When we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, only then do we give God an opportunity to add to our ministries other matters that formerly were our priority concerns.”
