Global Evangelical Church ordains pastors

The Global Evangelical Church has ordained 23 pastors of the Church with a call on the clergy to see priesthood as an office of honour and high integrity which should not be taken for granted.

The ceremony, held at the Global Evangelical Church, Trinity Chapel, Kotobabi in Accra, saw four pastors commissioned as probationers to serve for two years after which they will qualify for ordination.

Nineteen pastors were ordained after successfully completing their two-year period of probation and upon recommendation by their congregations, districts, presbyteries and the Synod Committee of the Church.

Faithful steward

Rt. Rev. Dr Setorwu Ofori, Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church, who officiated, led the pastors to take their vows to be faithful stewards, teachers of the Gospel and followers of Jesus Christ.

They were also advised to be good examples and shepherds to their congregants, seek the unity and peace of the Church, take good care of their families and be subject to the authority of the Church.

Rev. Raphael Mac Attih, Synod Clerk of the Global Evangelical Church, delivering the sermon, said priesthood was one of the ancient professions created by God that should be taken seriously.

He mentioned Law and Medicine as the other ancient professions but said “the office of the pastor is the most challenging among the three ancient professions because the pastor has to deal with all manner of people.”

“The profession we have decided to welcome into our lives is not a profession that we can toy with,” he said, urging the newly commissioned and ordained pastors to submit themselves to the leadership of God as their “senior partner in ministry.”

Drawing attention

Rev. Attih, decrying the attitude of pastors who draw attention to themselves instead of God, cautioned the pastors to watch out for the temptation of taking the glory and praise that belonged to God in the discharge of their duties.

He called on the leadership of the country to make God the leader of the country “as enshrined in our National Anthem for “God to continue to bless our homeland Ghana.”

Rev. Dela Donkor, one of the newly ordained priests, on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude to God for the training they received from the Global Theological Seminary of the Church and to the leadership of the Church for their encouragement and nurturing.
