‘Give more attention to technological innovation’

The Head of the Electrical and Engineering Department of the Sunyani Technical University, Mr James Adu Ansere, has advised the government to pay more attention to technological innovation since it has the potential to drive the country’s socio-economic agenda in a sustainable manner.

He stated that Ghana and some Third World countries were lagging behind and continued to go out with cup in hand begging for aids because they lacked the technological know-how to drive their economies.

“We have to be serious and invest in technological innovations if we want to be among the best economies in this technological era,” he stated, adding that: “It saddens me that we have not given much attention to technological innovations.”

Mr Ansere was speaking at the official opening of the Sunyani branch of Premium Technologies, a wholly owned Ghanaian company which offers a variety of internet solutions and general communication needs to corporate bodies and individuals.

Established 10 years ago, the company which has its head office in Accra, has other branches in Israel, Sierra Leone, Liberia and North America, with over 38 technology partners across the globe.

Entrepreneurial skills

Mr Ansere who dwelt on technology, innovations, management and entrepreneurial skills (TIME) said Ghana ought to wake up from its slumber and do the right things that would propel its socio-economic growth.

He stated that Ghana needed more entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers who could work to create the necessary job openings for the teeming youth.
Premium technologies

In his address, the Executive Director of the company, Mr George Twumasi Adu, said the company’s interest was to generate the interest of the youth in the area of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

He said the company had begun discussions and arrangements to enable students from the Sunyani Technical University to have their industrial placements, internship and national service placement.

“We are here for a long haul and have the vision of joining forces with chiefs, the Regional Coordinating Council, as well as institutions to train the young ones and generate jobs in the region and beyond,” Mr Adu said.

He explained that Sunyani was strategically placed to enable the company to reach out to its clients in the middle belt, including Vodafone and MTN, and the three northern regions and serve them better.

Mr Adu stated that the company delivered unmatched business value to customers through excellence, quality frameworks so as to service delivery innovations.

For his part, the Chairperson of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Reverend Dr Kwabena Ofosu-Addo, who officially opened the branch, called on the youth to be innovative since all inventions started through the development of ideas.
