GIJ mgt won’t countenance indecent dressing — Rector
The management of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) has warned that indecent dressing on the part of its students will not be countenanced.

At the 17th matriculation ceremony of the institute in Accra yesterday, the Rector, Dr Wilberforce Sefakor Dzisah, said the institute would sanction students who put on dresses that exposed vital parts of the body.
“Since the beginning of lectures this semester, management has noted with concern an increase in indecent dressing by students. We wish to refer students to the handbook, specifically page 60, which deals with comportment. Management will apply sanctions with regard to any violation of the dress code,” he cautioned.
The matriculation oath was administered to the 1,270 students who have been admitted to pursue diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
They are made up of 500 diploma, 462 degree and 208 postgraduate students.
Tackling challenges
Dr Dzisah observed that the biggest challenge the institute had grappled with over the years was limited space for academic activities and added that management was putting measures in place to scale that challenge.
He announced that the management had set a two-year target to start and complete work on a 2,000-capacity hostel to accommodate students, reiterating that efforts were being made to complete the new site for the school at Dzorwulu.

The rector said being the leading specialised communications university in the country, the GIJ was committed to producing high quality human resource for the media and other industries, for which reason prospective students were taken through a rigorous selection process before admission.
He asked the fresh students to be mindful of their academic work, even as they got involved in other social activities.
“While we encourage social life, we must be mindful of its excesses to the detriment of our academic pursuit. Your primary goal is to achieve excellence by graduating with flying colours. Therefore, in the midst of your social, religious and other engagements, you must be able to have the right balance to achieve academic excellence,” he stressed.
