GIJ inaugurates chapter of Association of University Administrators
A six-member executive of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) branch of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has been inaugurated to enable GIJ administrators to participate in discussions on the development of GAUA.

The executive members are: Mr Matthew MacKwame (President); Mrs Patience Sowah (Vice-President); Mr Seth Ofosu Obeng (Secretary); Mr Clifford Kwao Rockson (Assistant Secretary); Mrs Harriet Karikari (Treasurer) and Mrs Lydia Nyantakyi Baah (Editor).
Professional competence
At the inaugural ceremony, the National President of GAUA, Mr Kwame Ohene Ampofo, commended GIJ for attaining the status of a university and urged the executives to address issues related to the change in the school’s status, to enhance the growth of the institution.
While advising the members to sharpen their professional competence in order to provide alternative solutions for the development of the institution, he urged members to unleash their potential to make the association more vibrant.
The acting Vice Rector of GIJ, Mr Ebo Afful, in his address, charged the members of the association to stick to their professional code, in order to make an impact on the operations of the institution.
Fulfilling obligations
In an acceptance speech on behalf of the new executives, Mr MacKwame encouraged members to join him to work to move the association and the institution forward.
He added that they would observe and respect the constitution of the association to fulfil their obligation to develop the institution and the association.
Background of GAUA
First inaugurated in August 1980 at the University of Ghana, GAUA aims at promoting the advancement of higher education in Ghana, and the professional development and welfare of its members.
It is an association made up of senior administrative and professional staff of public universities in Ghana, including auditors, accountants, directors of finance, registrars, architects, quantity surveyors, engineers, pharmacists, lawyers, medical doctors, among others.
