It will focus on health, safety, security, environment and social responsibility.

The two-day conference is on the theme: 'Guided by History, Shaping the Future: Protecting People and the Environment in Africa”. It is expected to bring together experts in the oil and gas sector to discuss emerging trends in the industry.

President John Mahama is expected to grace the occasion.

The SPE is a non-profit professional association whose members are engaged in energy resources development and production.

Choice

According to the organisers, Ghana  was chosen to host the conference because of its emergence as an oil and gas economy in Africa.

Currently, Ghana is home to the Jubilee superfield discovered by Kosmos Energy in 2007, and operated by Tullow Oil.

As part of the conference, the SPE will announce the 'Leading Women - Engineering the Way Forward Panel Session.’

The session will encompass interactive discussions with a high-level and dynamic panel that will share their own experiences, career choices and challenges in the industry.
