Gas explosion rocks home of policeman

Four members of a family have been hospitalised after a gas cylinder exploded at their residence in Suhum yesterday.

Police Constable Raymond Abeyie, his wife and their two children are currently on admission at the Suhum Government Hospital for the injuries they sustaine following the explosion.

Turning it on

Narrating the incident to the Daily Graphic on his hospital bed, Constable Abeyie said he went to turn on the gas burner after his wife had unsuccessfully tried to do so.

He explained that he thought the cylinder was excessively filled and decided to open the tap to let go some of the gas.

According to him, he did that not knowing that his wife had already switched on the burner, as a result of which the cylinder exploded immediately he connected the regulator and struck the match.

He said he and his family were all in the porch-turned-kitchen at the time of the explosion, resulting in their injuries.

Impact

The four victims suffered extensive skin aberrations on their faces through to their feet but doctors said their conditions were stable.

They also lost most of their household items
