Gas explosion kills 6 in Bole

Residents of the Tinga community in the Bole District of the Northern region were thrown into a state of fear and mourning following a gas explosion that killed six people including two females.

The explosion also injured five other persons on Sunday morning, August 28, 2016.

The horrific scenes created by the explosion had many of the residents walling loudly while others stood in groups to discuss the terrifying accident.

The explosion drew many people, including children to the accident scene.

Pieces of the container, which held the pipes and the gas cylinders could be seen on the road and the nearby houses with some of the pipes spread on the road.

Nearby buildings around the accident scene were badly damaged with some having their roofs ripped off.

The cylinders, believed to be containing oxygen and belonging to Nasara Logistics were being transported from Kpone near Tema in the Greater Accra Region to the Wa Government Hospital in the Upper West Region.

At the time of filing this report, a joint rescue team comprising the police and the Ghana National Fire Service were at the scene to help restore calm.

The Bole District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr David Dogbatse, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, said the accident occurred at about 8:30am.

He said the vehicle carrying the cylinders with registration number, GT 9423-10, was on its way from Kpone near Tema in the Greater Accra Region to the Wa Government Hospital in the Upper West Region.

He explained that when the vehicle got to the centre of the Tinga community, it exploded, killing the driver and his mate  on the spot, adding that four others, including two females who are residents of the area were killed at separate locations near the accident site.
