Ga Traditional Council restrained from inducting King Adama Latse II

The Accra High Court has put an injunction on the Ga Traditional Council from inducting George Tackie Abia also known as King Tackie Adama Latse II, as the Ga Mantse.

The interlocutory injunction will be in place until the determination of a suit which alleges that a purported recommendation by the council to the National House of Chiefs for George Tackie Abia to be gazetted as the Ga Mantse is “fraudulent.’’

In a ruling last Monday, the court, presided over by Mr Justice Kweku T Ackah-Boafo, held that the application for injunction was granted on the basis of justice and convenience.

“The application is granted pending the final determination of the case. The defendants/respondents, their agents,  assigns are restrained from inducting George Tackie Abia aka King Tackie Adama Latse II into the Ga Traditional Council as Ga Mantse,’’ the presiding judge stated.

Suit

The application for the injunction was initiated by Nii Dr Tetteh Kwei II and Nii Agyemang Kese II who described themselves as the accredited kingmakers of the Ga Paramount Stool.

The move followed a substantive suit at the court in which the two individuals had accused the acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, and the council of fraud.

Nii Dr Kweii and Nii Kesse in their suit claimed that on November 13, 2013, the acting President “recommended and endorsed ‘’ the chieftaincy declaration forms of George Tackie Abia under a cover letter to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs ‘‘for his name to be gazetted in the National Register of Chiefs as Ga Mantse.’’

The plaintiffs averred that they were the accredited kingmakers of the Ga Paramount Stool and thus Nii Nsaki and the Ga Traditional Council “have no capacity to recommend, endorse or forward the chieftaincy declaration forms of George Tackie Abia to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.’’

They are, therefore, seeking the court’s direction to declare the action of the acting President and the Ga Traditional Council as “null and void and of no legal effect.’’

Controversy

Ever since the demise of  Boni Nii Amugi II on December 10, 2004, the Ga Mantse paramount stool has been plagued with lots of controversy.

Currently there are three claimants to the Stool, with all of them claiming to be the legitimate Ga Mantse. They are Nii Tackie Obli II, Nii Tackie Adama Latse II and Dr Kelvin Tackie Abia.
