Free SHS Ambassador leads health walk

The National Coordinator of the Free Senior High School (SHS) Programme, Mr William Darkwah, has advised teachers to disabuse their minds of the notion that their motivation may be adversely affected during the implementation of the programme.

Rather, he said teacher motivation was one of the priorities of the government and would, therefore, form an integral part of the implementation of the Free SHS programme.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a health walk to create awareness of the Free SHS Programme last Saturday, Mr Darkwah said the government was committed to catering for the welfare of teachers under the programme.

“The PTA dues which are normally paid by parents to motivate teachers are part of the funding that would be provided to the schools as part of the Free SHS programme.

We have taken a holistic approach on every aspect of the programme with the aim of improving the outcome of education,” he said.

Health walk

The health walk started from the Accra Mall to the Aviation Social Centre in Accra and was headlined by award-winning actor, Abraham Attah, who is an ambassador for the Free SHS programme.

Organised by a business solutions and digital marketing company, EON 3 Group, the event attracted hundreds of JHS graduates who wil be the direct beneficiaries of the Free SHS programme when it is rolled out in September this year.

Also in attendance was DJ Switch, a popular young disk jockey and winner of this year’s “Talented Kids’’ event, as well as Rebecca Asamoah, the 2017 Miss United Nations World, who was also unveiled as an ambassador for the Free SHS programme.

Apart from the health walk, there were fun games such as soccer, basketball and table tennis for the participants.

The Executive Director of EON 3 Group, Mr Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Attah, explained that the event was meant to create more awareness of the Free SHS programme.

The event, he said, was also meant to create a platform for the students who would benefit from the Free SHS to interact with officials of the Ministry of Education and the relevant stakeholders to get a better understanding of the program“As publicist for Abraham Attah, we collaborate with the Ministry of Education to use his fame and goodwill to create awareness of the importance of the Free SHS programme.

Our aim is to ensure that every Ghanaian child takes advantage of the programme,” he said.

Advice

In his remarks, Abraham Attah urged students to take their studies seriously because education was the catalyst for their future development.

“The Free SHS is a good policy, and it should be an encouragement for children to learn hard to ensure that the massive investment that the government is channelling into this programme yields positive fruits,” he said.
