Four arrested over murder of chief

Four persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of the chief of Salikuga, a farming community in the Zabzugu District in the Northern Region.

The remains of the slain chief have been deposited at the Yendi Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The suspects were among a group of persons who were alleged to have attacked and shot the Salikuga-Naa, Timani Tigu, 75, at his palace around 8.30p.m. on Tuesday.

The police gave their names as Musah Alhassan, 45,  Mohammed Dorkrudu, 50, Dozomaame, 25 and Nurudeen Mohammed, 18.

The police have also launched a manhunt for Abdulai Mohammed, 45, believed to be the main architect of the crime who is said to be on the run.

Calm has since returned to the area following the arrest of the suspects who have since been transferred to the Regional Police Headquarters in Tamale for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, security personnel are said to be patrolling the community to ensure law and order.

Briefing the Daily Graphic in Tamale, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, explained that the slain chief gave a piece of farmland to the suspects for cultivation.

Later, a Fulani herdsman and his cattle were said to have destroyed the farm and its produce leading to the attack on the Fulani man whose name was not given.

Mr Tetteh said the matter was subsequently brought before the Regent of Zabuzugu who asked the deceased chief to help settle the matter between the suspects and the Fulani herdsman amicably.

He said  the matter was still pending till last Tuesday night when the incident occurred.
