Foundation advocates better care for the elderly

For more than five years, the Onua Pa Foundation (OPF), an indigenous Non-Governmental Organisation based at Adukrom-Akuapem in the Eastern Region that advocates better care for the elderly, has been supporting the elderly.

The support includes health screening exercises and the provision of food items and clothing for them.

In the same vein, the organisation last Wednesday donated similar items, including toiletries, valued at GH₵ 5,000.00 to some elderly residents of Nkyenoa-Amanfo, a community in the Akuapem-North District.

The items were mobilised from individuals in Ghana and abroad who shared the foundation’s philosophy in providing basic needs of the elderly in deprived communities in the country.

An appeal

Presenting the items, the Chairman of OPF, Mr Blessed Ayisi, said the gesture was in response to an appeal made by the Adukrom District Presbyterian Church to the foundation to come to their aid in supporting the elderly men and women living in Nkyenoa-Amanfo and its surrounding communities, “hence our swift response.”

He used the occasion to appeal to other benevolent organisations to assist the elderly in the country, explaining that most of the youth who were supposed to cater for them had migrated to the cities for greener pastures.

In a joyous mood, one of the beneficiaries expressed the group's appreciation to the foundation saying, “We are glad Onua Pa has thought of us by providing us with beautiful clothing.
