In a statement issued from his office in Accra, he said Nana Akufo-Addo’s success at the polls did not come to him as a surprise because he had all along had confidence in his ability to win the election when the time was right.

He praised Nana Akufo-Addo’s determination, patience and perseverance exhibited over the years, and said he believed that the victory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was a victory for Ghana’s democracy.

Mr Fitih said he was hopeful that the President-elect would bring his wealth of experience as a politician and democrat to bear on the governance processes of the country.

“I believe in your vision and competence to implement all the policies outlined during your campaign for the presidency and have no doubt that the country will benefit when they are carried out effectively,” he said.

He further urged the President-elect to endeavour to appoint competent people who he could control into ministerial and other sensitive positions.

He asked Ghanaians to exercise patience with the incoming NPP administration and allow it time to put things in shape before take-off.

“Ghanaians must not think that things are going to be rosy because there is a change in government. What is required at this time is sacrifice and hard work to make the incoming government succeed,” he stated.

The former majority leader lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his gallantry in conceding defeat and commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for conducting one of the most credible elections in the history of the country.
