Ford gift: CHRAJ report vindicates Mahama - Tony Lithur

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed the hope that the issues regarding the ford gift he received from a Burkinabe contractor would finally be laid to rest once and for all following the dismissal of the petition on the matter by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

According to the President, the clarity and completeness of CHRAJ’s determination of all the issues should help to put the matter to rest.

Responding to the report in a press statement on Thursday, in his capacity as solicitor for President Mahama, Mr Tony Lithur commended CHRAJ for discharging its constitutional mandate with despatch.

“I acknowledge receipt of the report prepared by Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) dated September 29, 2016 in respect of complaints of conflict of interest and corruption lodged against my client by 3 different complainants,” he wrote in the statement.

“While I was always confident of my client’s innocence, the report throws more light on the circumstances surrounding the subject of the complaints, and demonstrates clearly to the people of Ghana that the accusations of conflict of interest and corruption variously made against my client by different people and entities in various fora, were wrong, without basis and unsupported by the facts.”

According to Mr Lithur, the thoroughness of the investigations conducted by CHRAJ, and the manner in which it has tackled all the issues arising from the complaints are commendable.
