The seminar was also to educate the women on the right way of using the flour to get the maximum returns from their investment.

It was also to enable the company to learn at first-hand some of the problems facing the bakers, most of who are women, and how best the company can help them solve these problems.

Annual

The Sales Manager of Flour Mills Ghana Limited, Mr Georges Elkhoury, said every year, the company organised such programmes to keep in touch with its customers and to also learn from them some of the challenges they were facing  and how best the company could be of assistance to them.

He said Sankofa Flour remained the best on the market as it could be used for all pastries and all the three types of popular breads in Ghana, namely Tea, Butter and Sugar.

Aside from that, he said, Sankofa Flour was very smooth and as such produced products with a smooth texture and also gave the best results when mixed correctly.

He said the company was always researching into ways of making its products healthier, better and more nutritious.

Mr Elkhoury expressed his gratitude to the bakers for their patronage of the company’s products and urged them to continue doing business with it, since their relationship was a win-win one.

Bakers

On behalf of members of the Bakers Association, the Ashanti Regional President, Mrs Comfort Akotua, commended the company for always keeping in touch with  bakers and getting to know the challenges facing the industry.

She said the company had over the years maintained a good relationship with the members of the association and commended their regional representatives who always tried to assist them whenever they faced challenges.

Commenting on the sector, she said gradually, baking was becoming a new vocation for Ghanaians, particularly retirees.

She explained that due to the advancement in technology people did not need the traditional oven which required high capital and space, “now with a gas oven and a small space, one can start baking”.

That, she said, was affecting the quality of the products being produced by some ‘bakeries’ as many of them were not professionally trained.

That notwithstanding, she said the sector employed a lot of people directly and indirectly, thus enabling many people to earn their livelihood.

She appealed to the government to reduce the taxes on some of the products they used in the industry to enable them to survive in business.
