First Lady receives Global Leadership Award

The First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, has received the 2014 Global Inspiration Leadership Award at the Africa-Middle East-Asia summit in Dubai.

She was also inducted into the Global Women Leaders Hall of Fame, an opportunity which would afford her a wider and more effective networking and collaborations to help promote her developmental projects.

Mrs Mahama, together with 21 other distinguished women, including some Ghanaians, received the award and inducted into the Global Women Leaders Hall of Fame. 

The ceremonies were held as part of the second edition of the Africa-Middle East-Asia Women Summit in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirate.

Empowering women

The Africa-Middle East-Asia Women Summit is aimed at equipping women leaders in underdeveloped and developing nations to take up leadership positions in government, business and community development sectors, so as to enable them to serve as drivers of change in their various fields of endeavour. 

The 2014 summit created the platform for participants to share experiences and best practices and also create relationships that would forge mutual benefits of growth and development. 

Organised by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development, CELD, in collaboration with the CEO Clubs Network Worldwide, some women leaders who had distinguished themselves in their various fields were honoured with the 2014 Africa-Middle East-Asia Amazon Awards. 

In all 22 women, including First Ladies, and CEOs of various entities, from Zimbabwe, Palestine, The Gambia, Cape Verde, Nigeria, South Africa and Ghana received the awards. 

Mrs Mahama was grateful for the recognition.She said she was challenged to put in more effort in bringing hope to the less privileged women and children in Ghana. 

Ghanaian women honoured

Three Ghanaian women in the banking and entrepreneurial industries also received awards. They are Ms Nilla Selormey, MD/CEO of Universal Merchant Bank Ghana, Mrs Patience Akyianu, Managing Director, Barclays Bank of Ghana and Madam Shika Acolatse, Country Director of Enablis Ghana, Enterprise Development Centre, Takoradi. 

Mrs Mahama was also honoured by the State of Georgia and Maryland in the United States of America for her work in women empowerment and support for children in deprived communities in Ghana.

The First Lady and two other entities, Merchant Bank and Dubai Care were selected for this award in recognition of their hard work and dedication to serving humanity. 

The women were then inducted into the Global Women Leaders Hall of Fame 2014.

Membership will afford them a wider and effective networking and collaborations which would help promote desired developments in their various fields and countries.
