First Lady donates towards Osu Homowo festival

The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has presented food items and money to the Osu Traditional Council towards the celebration of this year’s Homowo.

The items included assorted drinks, cooking oil and maize, as well as GH¢5,000.

She was accompanied by the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mr Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah; the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Ishmael Ashitey, and other officials.

Support

Making the presentation at the Osu Mantse Palace in Accra, Mrs Akufo-Addo urged the traditional council to support the government in the discharge of its mandatory duties to fulfil the promises it made in the run-up to the 2016 general election.

She said the government was ready to make the nation greater and stronger.

Nii Dowuona

For his part, the Osu Mantse, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, thanked the First Lady for the kind gesture.

He observed that children in the area were not performing well in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), a situation, he said, was a worry to the stool.

As a result, he reiterated that the theme of the festival: “Our youth and education, the way forward,” had been dedicated to ensure good education for the children of Osu.

“Education is paramount to the future of the country, it is important for people to ensure that their wards were enrolled in school,” he said.

He further appealed to the government to make the needs of the area a priority, since a chunk of the region’s revenue was derived from the area.
